Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College (SDUMC), established in 1986 under the Sri Devaraj Urs Educational Trust, is a constituent unit of Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research (SDUAHER), a deemed university since 2007. The Department of Community Medicine at Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, Kolar, is committed to promoting community-oriented medical education and strengthening public health practices. The department aims to train competent, compassionate, and socially responsible healthcare professionals through a combination of academic learning and practical field experiences. Students actively participate in various outreach initiatives such as the Family Adoption Programme, school health camps, rural and urban health screening camps, and community-based health surveys. The department also organizes awareness programs, rallies, and activities on various national and international health days to promote public health education. In addition, free medical services and mega health camps are conducted to serve underserved populations. The department encourages research among undergraduate and postgraduate students, including participation in projects supported by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). Karnataka Association of Community Health (KACH) was established in 1984 for bringing together Community Health professionals of Karnataka to foster education, health promotion and research. The Association, with more than 860 life members, has enabled and nurtured public health specialists to actively contribute for building healthier communities.
